A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE HEART OF TEXAS CHURCH
The Heart of Texas Church officially began in 2004. It began with a group of disciples who had been traveling to Austin to worship. Doug & Karen Vance volunteered to work with the Fort Hood group and help them establish themselves as a church to meet the needs of disciples and other folks in central Texas. Doug is the evangelist and has been working with the church for three years on a part time basis. Karen is a full time employee at Dell computers. They have two children, Isaiah and Josiah, as well as a daughter-in-law, Kim. Kim and Isaiah just recently made them grandparents with the arrival of Haley Faith.
The church is overseen by a board with five members on it. Those board members are Grace Deneke, Monty Hornbuckle, John Maxwell, Doug Vance and Rolando Villalon. The board makes decisions about all financial matters concerning the church. They work together to meet the needs of the entire family of believers spiritually, emotionally and physically. In the near future, the church will be appointing elders and deacons to serve in the church.
We believe the Bible is inspired by God and we seek to live out the teachings and principles of the scriptures in our lives. Our church motto is "He Died for Us, We'll Live For Him." That pretty much sums up what we're trying to do here at the Heart of Texas- Live for Him and love the people He has placed in our lives because He really did die for us.
